Like AI chatbots, image generators have also become extremely popular. Among the best-known models is DALL-E 3, which OpenAI has integrated into ChatGPT. But Google also offers equivalent technology and its image generation model, called Imagen 3. And since October, the Imagen 3 model is available free of charge on Gemini for all users around the world.

“Your imagination is limitless and we want to put the power of creativity in your hands. We’re also expanding image generation to more countries and languages, so even more people can bring their ideas to life with Gemini. While this model represents a step forward in the quality and accuracy of image generation, we are constantly learning and will continue to improve to give you the best experience possible”we read in the announcement of this update by Google.

How to generate an image using Imagen 3?

To generate an image for free using Google’s Imagen model, it’s very simple: you just have to go to Gemini, either on the website or on the mobile application, then ask the AI to generate the image you want. In the example below, I ask Gemini to generate an image of a giant snail walking down the streets of Paris.

You will have no difficulty creating images of objects or animals using the generator built into Gemini. On the other hand, the free version will not allow you to create images that include people. When I asked the AI to generate an image of a painter, it told me that the ability to generate images of people will soon be available on Gemini Advanced, which is the paid version of the chatbot from Google.

In any case, the addition of an image generator makes Gemini even more practical, while it already allows you to search for files on Gmail or Google Drive, via the Workspace extension. In addition, Google is preparing to offer Gemini integration with the Google calendar, and the Keep and Task applications. These integrations should allow Gemini to offer real benefits to the user in terms of productivity.

  • Like OpenAI, Google offers an image generation model
  • Called Imagen 3, it is integrated into the free version of the Gemini application
  • To generate an image, you simply ask the AI, describing the image you want to obtain
  • But right now, Imagen 3 doesn’t let you create images of people
