ifixit iconAs explained in the first teardown, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature a new adhesive for the batteries that can be detached using low-voltage electric current. While Apple’s official repair guide suggests using a 9V battery with alligator clips for this task, iFixit has launched a USB-powered alternative.

An accessory called VoltClip

The repair specialist’s new VoltClip tool consists of a pair of alligator clips with a built-in USB-C adapter. By connecting the tool to a USB-C charger or device that supports 9 or 12 V output (using a USB-C to USB-C cable, not included), users can proceed upon adhesive release in approximately 60 to 90 seconds. iFixit has much more detailed instructions on its online site.

Priced at $10.95, the VoltClip is now available in the United States with same-day delivery on all orders placed before 1 p.m. If mainland France is not served, however the inhabitants of Martinique, Guadeloupe or Reunion can order it. Ditto for Canadians.

Note that this tool is not compatible with iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, as their batteries still use stretchy adhesive tabs.
