iphone 15 pro iconApple may be adding less powerful batteries than its main competitors, but the company is making considerable efforts on the software side to optimize the autonomy of iPhones. A recent research noted that with iOS 18, the iPhone 15 Pro Max benefits from an additional hour of autonomy, nothing revolutionary, but it is still an additional comfort for users.

iOS 18 does a lot of good for the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s battery life

Popular Chinese blogger Geekerwan recently posted a series of battery tests on his YouTube channel. He compared different iPhone models and popular Android smartphones on the market. The Chinese blogger got a surprise he didn’t expect: the iPhone 15 Pro Max gained an extra hour of battery life thanks to the iOS 18 update, confirming the effectiveness of Apple’s optimizations.

Geekerwan included all iPhone 16 models in its test, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 13 Pro Max, and several flagship Android smartphones. The test ran under very demanding conditions, involving a variety of tasks such as heavy WeChat usage, mass texting, voice calls that lasted for minutes, local and streaming video playback, web browsing across multiple sites, TikTok sessions with auto-scrolling videos, and even the resource-intensive game Genshin Impact, all on a loop until the batteries were completely drained.

The results are impressive: the iPhone 16 Pro Max set a new battery life record with a performance of more than 10 hours. An excellent duration that surpasses most other iPhones.

While the iPhone 16 Pro Max shines with its performance, the iPhone 15 Pro Max also stands out thanks to the iOS 18 update, which brings particularly effective optimization. Indeed, the battery life of this model has increased from 7h56 under iOS 17 to 9h02 under iOS 18, an increase of more than an hour. A nice improvement that confirms Apple’s efforts to make its devices less energy-hungry. Even the iPhone 15 Pro has benefited from this optimization. Its battery life has increased from 6h22 to 6h55, thus offering around 30 additional minutes.

A successful technical optimization

The iPhone 15 Pro Max’s improved battery life is due to more refined resource management in iOS 18. Apple has improved how the A17 Pro manages performance and efficiency cores. By reducing the processor frequency during short or undemanding tasks, iOS 18 helps extend battery life without sacrificing responsiveness. This optimization provides intelligent power management, which is particularly useful when performing varied and continuous tasks.

A lasting improvement?

It remains to be seen whether this excellent performance will continue over time, with the upcoming arrival of updates such as iOS 18.1 or iOS 18.2… We hope that future updates in the iOS 18 cycle will not compromise this advance in terms of autonomy.
