We already have it here. The new and latest official version of the operating system for the iPhone, corresponding to iOs 18.1, is now available for download. We tell you all the news so that, as soon as you read the article, you know if it is worth updating now or if you should wait for a more stable version.
The iOS 18.1 update brings with it new Apple Intelligence featuresalong with other improvements accessible to all users.
What’s new in iOS 18.1
It should be noted, as we have been remembering and criticizing in recent weeks, that functions based on artificial intelligence will not reach Spain yet. Here we show you some of the most notable ones:
- Changes in the Control Center: iOS 18.1 introduces new buttons for AirDropWi-Fi and VPN, and recovers the connections box, allowing you to manage options such as Airplane Mode, Wi-Fi, Mobile Data and Bluetooth.
- Camera improvements: Switching between the front and rear cameras will now be easier with the new Camera Control button. Let us remember that this button is only available on the new batch of iPhone 16, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max.
- Call Recording: Initially exclusive to iPhone 15 and up, this feature will be available to all supported iPhones, although call transcription and summarization will be limited to devices with Apple Intelligence.
Apple Intelligence features coming in iOS 18.1
After telling you the general news of this update, these are the first functions that Apple Intelligence will introduce to the iPhone.
- Writing improvements: Apple Intelligence will allow you to transform texts, change their tone, paraphrase them, create lists, summarize key points or generate tables, among other options.
- Smart focus mode– With this feature, iPhone will reduce interruptions by automatically filtering out only important notifications.
- Photo Updates: The app will allow you to create movies from a simple description and use the magic eraser or “Clean Up” to intelligently remove objects from photos.
- What’s new in Siri: Although the full version of Siri will arrive later, in iOS 18.1 a renewed interface is launched that will allow you to interact by writing to it, maintain a continuous conversation and receive instructions for use to perform various actions.
- Notification summary– The system will group notifications from the same app into a single sentence and can summarize Safari articles and emails.
- Advances in the Mail app: Mail will recognize important messages, be able to summarize emails and respond intelligently.
These features will be available with the release of Apple Intelligence in iOS 18.1, although Apple plans progressively add more features in future versions such as iOS 18.2, where integration with ChatGPT, Image Playground and Genmoji is expected.
Likewise, we remember that these functionalities will not yet be available in Spain, and will not be until, at least, end of the first quarter of 2025due, according to Apple, to a regulatory conflict with the European Union.
As for compatibility, this new version will be available on all those terminals that were already able to install iOS 18 a few weeks ago. However, Apple Intelligence features will only reach iPhones from 15 Pro onwards, as well as iPads and Macs with M1 chip onwards.
