For September 2025, it appears that Apple is planning to launch an all-new iPhone, tentatively dubbed the iPhone 17 Air. Still at the rumor stage, this device could become the thinnest iPhone ever designed. According to confidential information, it is currently in the pre-production phase.
A new confirmation of its existence
The iPhone 17 Air, likely replacement for the iPhone 17 Plus, has officially reached an important milestone in its development by entering the product presentation phase. This means that Apple is beginning to work with its suppliers to define final technical specifications, prepare the supply chain, and refine the design before launch.
This new model would be presented as a lighter and thinner version of the traditional iPhone, just 6.25mm thick, with a particular focus on ergonomics and durability. One of the main innovations discussed is the integration of new ultralight battery technology that could extend battery life without increasing the thickness of the device.
Additionally, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to feature an optimized OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, similar to that of the Pro models, and would permanently ditch the physical SIM card port. This model could also introduce a simplified version of the A19 chip, designed for efficient and energy-saving use.
According to increasingly persistent rumors, the iPhone 17 Air could replace the iPhone 17 Plus, a delicate position between a standard iPhone and a popular iPhone Pro despite its high price. The iPhone mini and iPhone Plus models have already borne the brunt of this competition in recent years. If this new iPhone comes to fruition, it remains to be seen what Apple will officially name it.
