In general, IPTV resellers are extremely discreet. They never provide information about their professions or their domicile to their clients. A US citizen took a different approach to woo would-be fraudsters.
Reassure customers
TorrentFreak in fact returns to the case of this pirate known under the pseudonym Moy. Based in Illinois, the latter allegedly provided illegal subscriptions to more than 500 sellers according to the plaintiffs. Nearly 450,000 users have used this service, which provides access to a large amount of content for $20 per month.
So far, there is nothing very original and we have already observed similar cases. But Moy went further to convince his interlocutors to subscribe to his offers. And for good reason, he claimed to be a police officer from the Chicago area.
Quoted by our colleagues, the plaintiffs argue as follows:
Moy’s dealers were informed that he was a law enforcement agent and that this message was spread in Telegram groups, including by group moderators working for Moy. Based on information and belief, Moy used his alleged association with law enforcement to market the service to users and resellers and alleviate potential concerns about the illegality of the service.
A very careful pirate
Prudent, the man forbade resellers from displaying “videos or photos of channel programming” of Moy’s service on social networks. They should also not use certain key words, such as “IPTV, Stream, cable”.
Customers were also asked not to mention the exact reason for their transfers so as not to arouse suspicion. These precautions were not enough. The plaintiffs are now demanding $1,125,000,000 in legal damages, specifies the specialized site.
Other original pirate profiles
This is not the first time that we have discovered an alleged pirate with an atypical profile. We recently spoke to you about Paul Merrell, a 42-year-old man who was not predestined for this. The latter was precisely the deputy headmaster of a school in the United Kingdom and his criminal record was clean.
Brilliant in his role and appreciated by all, he even received universal praise for his action. He nevertheless allegedly set up a vast and very lucrative IPTV network and ended up getting caught. More information on its history in our previous article here.
