It is the technology of the moment, the one which is supposed to revolutionize many professions. But what is the real impact of generative artificial intelligence (AI) when adopted in business? To find out, the research firm Mozza carried out a survey of 80 startups from French Tech, 40% of which are part of the Next40 and FT120 indices.
Obstacles to widespread adoption
First observation: 96% of respondents consider generative AI to be “ a strategic lever for the future of their activity »with even more pronounced enthusiasm in certain sectors such as edtech, fintech or health. This figure reflects the general frenzy sparked by technology.
However, only 37% of companies have truly integrated it into their daily operations. This contrast can be explained by various factors, namely the lack of internal skills, but also of budget, as well as the difficulty in identifying promising use cases. There are also technical challenges, such as the lack of internal data to refine the models. Security and confidentiality are also major issues.
L’study also notes a disparity in the adoption of AI depending on the size of the company. For example, 93% of those with more than 250 employees use technology, compared to 41% of startups with between 50 and 99 employees.
What use cases?
To begin with, companies deployed AI in internal applications, before extending it to tools aimed at improving customer relationships. Two main objectives are identified: improve the value proposition through new functionalities, and reduce operational costs.
Likewise, certain use cases stand out, such as process automation, data analysis, customer relationship management or marketing content generation. Unsurprisingly, product and tech professions are the most exposed to generative AI, followed by customer relations and marketing.
At Alan, for example, a chatbot manages interactions with customers, while a response evaluation system ensures their quality. The fintech Agicap has launched a conversational assistant to interact with financial data. AI analyzes and exports personalized data, while automated user support is available for complex questions.
OpenAI largely dominates
52% of companies using generative AI use ChatGPT, ahead of Dust (25%) and Copilot (22%). OpenAI’s different language models, the GPT iterations, largely dominate the ranking ahead of Mistral Large, Claude and Gemini.
Currently, 12% of companies notice a considerable or very significant improvement in their performance thanks to generative AI. 90% of them have set up a team or a person dedicated to the deployment of technology within their activities.
