Apple has updated the Mac Pro. But that’s not necessarily what you think. While the M4 Ultra chip will wait, customers who opt for the M2 Ultra model currently on sale will now have accessories with USB-C ports, whether the Magic Mouse or the Magic Keyboard. In addition to the accessories, Apple has replaced the included Lightning cable with a USB-C to USB-C charging cable.
A “new” Mac Pro
Apple introduced these “Magic” accessories in a USB-C version yesterday with the launch of the new iMac equipped with the M4 chip. This all-in-one computer not only adopts USB-C ports on its accessories, but also offers 8K external display support and expanded memory options, providing a glimpse into the future direction of ‘Apple for desktop performance and connectivity. It also marks an important step with 16 GB of RAM as standard.
Aside from these accessory updates, no other changes have been made to the Mac Pro 2023 itself, which still features the M2 Ultra chip, launching in June 2023 with a starting price set at €8,299 on the Apple France website (and “only” $6,999 in the US).
For those who want it, the new USB-C versions of the Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard, and Magic Trackpad are all available for sale separately, in white and black. This update reflects Apple’s overall approach to standardizing USB-C across all of its devices. A single charging port, as required by the EU.
