When driving, many of us hear the iPhone vibrate and look out of the corner of our eye at the screen to see what we have received. A very dangerous practice even though we do not hold the phone with our hands, since we will be paying attention to reading what it says, and not to the road.

Well, Apple has different options that allow us read these messages out loudthus avoiding having to look at the phone, and we will only listen to the message as if it were a companion who was talking to us, without having to take our eyes off what is really important.

How to make Siri read notifications

We will have different ways to do it, since our car may have CarPlay, which helps a lot, or simply Bluetooth, with which we can also do this.

Option 1: Use CarPlay (if your car is compatible)

  1. Connect your iPhone to CarPlay: If your car supports Apple CarPlay, simply connect your iPhone to the car using a cable or wirelessly if supported.
  2. Activate “Announce Notifications”:
    • Go to Configuration on your iPhone.
    • Scroll and select Siri and Search.
    • Tap on Announce Notifications.
    • Activate the option Announce Notifications.
    • Make sure the option CarPlay is activated.
  3. Customize which notifications you want to be read aloud:
    • You can select specific apps from which you want Siri to announce notifications.

Option 2: Use Siri without CarPlay

If you don’t have CarPlay, you can also use Siri to read notifications out loud, even through your car’s speakers if it’s connected to your car via Bluetooth.

  • Activate “Announce Notifications”:
    • Go to Configuration on your iPhone.
    • Scroll and select Siri and Search.
    • Tap on Announce Notifications.
    • Activate the option Announce Notifications.

Option 3: Use the “Do Not Disturb While Driving” feature

This option is ideal for not receiving anything, and therefore not distracting ourselves, but adding some exceptions if we want certain people in particular to be able to communicate with us.

  1. Set up “Do Not Disturb While Driving”:
    • Go to Configuration.
    • Touch Concentration and then select Drive.
    • Set it to activate automatically when connecting to your car via Bluetooth or when it detects that you are driving.
    • Be sure to customize automatic responses and exceptions so they don’t bother you while you’re driving.
  2. Allow important notifications:
    • If you need some notifications to be announced, you can set certain people or apps to go through Do Not Disturb mode.

In any of these ways, we can drive more calmly, either by avoiding absurd notifications that may distract us, or by listening to others that we believe are important. through car speakerswhich will stop the music or the radio (if we have it connected), to give us the information.

And you, did you know this? It can also be done with headphones, while doing sports, for example, and have your AirPods tell you everything without having to take the iPhone out of your pocket. It’s very comfortable indeed. Leave us a comment about how you have it configured, and what you think of this system. Would you improve or change anything?
