Bottled water, often perceived as purer than tap water, hides a disturbing secret. After the massive detection of microplastics, a study published in the scientific journal ACS ES&T Water reveals massive contamination with “PFAS”, also called “eternal pollutants” in bottled waters around the world.

PFAS, these substances that never disappear

PFAS represent a family of synthetic chemical compounds widely used in industry. Their popularity is explained by their remarkable properties: they repel water and stains. But this efficiency hides a worrying flip side. These molecules practically do not degrade in the environment, hence their nickname “eternal pollutants”.

Alarming results on a global scale

Researchers analyzed samples from 87 bottled water brands in 15 different countries. To establish a basis for comparison, they also studied 55 samples of tap water in the United Kingdom and China. The verdict is final: Almost all bottled water contains PFAS, including those labeled as “natural.”
