Plex’s goal has always been to provide a clean, detailed and modern interface for your movies and series hosted on a computer’s hard drive or on a NAS. If today Plex offers an interface that has nothing to envy of giants like Netflix or Prime Video, the application believes that it can do even better. You will no longer need to take your iPhone to see the reviews of a film before starting it, everything will be directly displayed on your TV screen!
Plex adds reviews
Plex continues to evolve and offer new features to enrich the user experience. Coming soon, a brand new review function for series and films will be available on Mac, PC, iOS, Android, as well as on televisions via Apple TV and other systems. This new option will no longer be limited to a simple rating, but will allow you to find out what viewers thought of the content you are about to view.
Reviews will initially come from other Plex users and potentially later from platforms like AlloCiné and IMDb. The objective is to display as many reviews as possible on each film or series profile. It will therefore be easy to get a clear idea before launching content, thanks to an overview of feedback from users and specialized sites.
This new functionality is a continuation of the social dimension of Plex. Last year, the service had already introduced the function “Discover together”allowing you to follow friends, share what you watch and rate content. So you can find out what your friends or work colleagues watched the day before and discuss your discoveries during the coffee break.
Reviews written by Plex users will initially be shared within their network of friends. However, a future update will open the possibility of making them public, accessible to all users of the platform. Currently, Plex is looking for US-based beta testers to evaluate this feature, but registrations are not yet available in France. Let’s hope this situation changes quickly…
How to write a review?
To write a review, users will be able to use Plex’s web interface or mobile applications. However, it won’t be possible to create reviews directly from the Plex app on TVs, although voice functionality could have been considered. Using a physical or virtual keyboard remains preferable for this type of interaction.
Plex wants to maintain a secure space for its users, the platform specifies that all reviews must respect community guidelines, under penalty of suspension of the offending accounts. It is not yet specified whether these suspensions will be temporary or permanent, but Plex will be uncompromising in the face of insulting or degrading comments.
Finally, users will have the option to filter the reviews they want to see, or even disable this feature completely if it doesn’t suit them. Plex therefore makes a point of letting everyone adapt their experience according to their preferences.
