On paper, the Sennheiser Profile Wireless is enough to make you salivate. Thanks to a modular system, it can take the form of lavalier microphones, attach to a camera, act as a handheld microphone or podcast/streaming equipment. All for just 300 euros.

Installation and handling
As soon as you open the box, The build quality of the Profile Wireless impresses. The box contains the multi-function base station, two clip-on transmitters, a two-channel receiver as well as all the necessary accessories (clips, windshields, cables) for audio recording.
Unlike DJI, no application is associated with the microphone. Installation is done in just a few minutes thanks to a touch screen and an automatic pairing system. For beginners, Sennheiser provides a very complete manual to take their first steps.
The initial configuration is therefore carried out from the LCD screen of the receiver. The menus are logical and access to essential parameters (gain, filters, monitoring) is immediate. Here again, Sennheiser takes beginners by the hand by offering pre-sets adapted to different uses (voice, instrument, atmosphere).

What we liked
A unique modular design in the world

The Profile Wireless storage box keeps little secrets nice and warm. In addition to protecting and recharging the various elements of the system, it also serves as a hand microphone. A windshield is also provided. The whole thing is relatively compact and elegant. The finishes are exemplary.
The strength of the Sennheiser Profile Wireless therefore lies in its great modularity. The microphone box can attach to a tripod to transform into a podcast recording microphone. Since it contains two microphones, two simultaneous tracks can be recorded. Perfect for interview format.
The receiver can also attach to a camera. You can then choose to take out one of the two lavalier microphones (or both). The receiver can also be attached to a smartphone. Tiktokers will appreciate it.

Each transmitter has 16 GB of internal storageallowing up to 24 hours of recording in maximum quality. The system automatically activates local recording whenever the wireless signal quality deteriorates.
The Profile Wireless therefore takes the form an all-in-one microphone never before seen on the market. If the box is a little bulky in a bag, its modularity offers unparalleled possibilities. Well seen.
Impressive recording quality

Although it does not allow recording in 32 bits (a real weak point at this price level), the Profile Wireless shines with its sound quality. The sound reproduction is indeed very detailed, with a particularly flattering restitution of the voice. The mids are precise and natural, the highs are crystal clear without ever becoming aggressive, and the bass is present while remaining perfectly controlled.
The signal-to-noise ratio of 78.5 dB(A) guarantees exceptionally clean recordings, even in complex sound environments. Sennheiser also includes a “Safety” mode which permanently records an emergency track with a sound level reduced by 6 dB.
Tests in real conditions

Studio and streaming
In studio configuration, the Profile Wireless proves very stable. During our simulated streaming sessions, no signal loss was observed. The latency of less than 8 ms ensures perfect synchronization with the image.
On a show
In noisy environments (in our case a showroom with around thirty people), the system demonstrated its versatility. The two transmitters made it possible to cover the main speaker and the secondary speaker simultaneously.
In report
In a mobile situation, the Profile Wireless maintains its performance up to 140 meters in an urban environment. Weather resistance is satisfactory, with resistance to “extreme” temperatures in France (between -10°C and +45°C). The clips and magnets provided ensure stable attachment to all types of clothing.

What we liked least
A somewhat limited scope

If Sennheiser announces 245 meters in a direct line, our tests reveal a more nuanced reality. The signal is completely lost from around 200 meters. In an urban environment, the useful range is limited to just 150 meters. Fortunately, microphones rarely find themselves in this situation. In our case, only the car test shoots allowed us to identify this limit.

Our final opinion
Like the excellent Profile, the Sennheiser Profile Wireless is a real success. Of remarkable quality, its modular format gives it unprecedented versatility on the market. The recording quality places it among the market benchmarks and its backup features are reassuring. The comfortable autonomy also allows you to continue recording hours without shaking.
At €300, despite some technical limitations and a slightly bulky format, the price-quality ratio of the Profile Wireless remains excellent. A new reference!
