To celebrate the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, Sony is delivering a dose of nostalgia to PS5 owners with a special update that reintroduces iconic elements from previous console generations, including the legendary splash screen of the original PlayStation.
A nostalgic experience limited in time
The update allows PS5 users to customize their interface with five different themes: one for each generation of PlayStation (PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4) and a special 30th anniversary theme. Each theme not only modifies the appearance of the main menu, but also reproduces the characteristic sounds and animations of each era, including the legendary PS1 startup “bwaaaam” which still resonates in the memories of players who experienced this golden era.
This celebration is accompanied by several elements:
- Displaying the classic Sony Computer Entertainment logo at startup
- Navigation sounds specific to each generation
- A personalized thank you message when shutting down the console
- A user interface in the colors of each generation
Unfortunately, Sony specifies that these features will only be available temporarily, likely until December 20. This initiative recalls a similar celebration for the 20th anniversary of PlayStation in 2014, where Sony had already proposed a retro theme for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita.
To accompany this update, Sony also launched anniversary promotions on the PlayStation Store until December 20 and released a video thanking players for their loyalty over three decades.
