The iPhone 16 was officially released last month. If we have quickly taken a look at the new features, it is because Apple is favoring the following range, the iPhone 17. While we are expecting big changes for the Dynamic Island, the processor or even the size (a very light), Apple would also consider completely overhauling the buttons of its future iPhone 17 Pro.

Unified Action and Volume buttons

According to a new leak signed Majin BuApple could combine the Action buttonintroduced on the iPhone 15 Pro, with the volume buttons. For this, the company would take inspiration from the camera control button recently added to the new iPhone 16s.

Rumor: a unified button on the iPhone 17 Pro

This merger between the Action button and the volume buttons could involve the use of technology capacitivesimilar to the camera control button. This works like a classic button, while allowing tactile interactions, such as swiping or tapping for different actions.

In the case of a single button on the left side of the screen, a regular press could trigger the Action button function, while taps and swipe gestures would adjust the volume. This approach would simplify the design of the iPhone by reducing the number of physical buttons and therefore costs. This would also be the way to strengthen the waterproofness of the phone.

However, although this is the logical continuation of the evolution of the iPhone, it is a rumor that must be confirmed in the coming months. If this is the case, iOS 19 will integrate a new interface to manage the different actions, as was the case for the Dynamic Island and the camera button.

In addition to the new buttons, Apple is reportedly working on a possible iPhone 17 Airan ultra-thin (and light) model and potentially more expensive than the Pro versions, inspired by the iPad Pro 2024. This model would be the new flagship of the range, with a miniaturized Face ID. We can legitimately think that it will instead be called iPhone 17 Ultra, For strengthen its positioning.
