Vision Pro users will soon be able to view spatial photos and videos directly in Safari, according to our team PetaPixel. During an interview, Apple product manager Della Huff and designer Billy Sorrentino revealed that support for this type of content is coming to Safari, enabling a new 3D experience on the browser, capable of playing immersive media.

A small development for Safari under visionOS

With the next version (probably 2.2), web developers will be able to integrate spatial photos and videos into their sites, visible in 3D on Vision Pro. These captures can be taken with the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, all four iPhone 16 models, as well as Vision Pro itself. Currently, the mixed reality headset requires spatial content to be shared directly through Messages, email or AirDrop, but future support in Safari will allow users to upload content viewable in 3D by any Vision Pro user.

For those who have not purchased the expensive Vision Pro (from €3,999), spatial photos and videos will appear in 2D like classic content on other devices. While there’s no specific date for this feature in Safari, it’s expected by the end of the year, likely via a visionOS 2.2 update.

Remember that support for spatial photos for the iPhone 15 Pro will be available with iOS 18.1, which is scheduled for release next week. With Vision Pro and visionOS 2, even existing photos can benefit from an additional depth effect. According to our tests during the beta, the rendering is striking.
