If you’re familiar with the Lunar tweak, you’ll be pleased to learn that there’s now a free alternative to haxi0’s service: Mooner. To go further in customizing the lock screen, the Mooner tweak lets you play with the alignment, the time and date font, hide certain elements, or even have a battery widget.

Mooner Tweak Preview

Mooner is a new lockscreen-based jailbreak tweak that accomplishes the same tasks as Lunar, but like the developer Nowisdev indicates in his post on Redditit’s free. The reason is that it’s his first tweak, he kind of got his hands on it.

Mooner, compatible with iOS 15 and iOS 16, spices up your lock screen and offers a ton of customization options, including alignment options, hiding some annoying lock screen elements, custom time and date formats, and a battery widget! Better yet, it retains Apple’s native effects like the time ticking under some wallpaper elements.

Developer’s words:

A bit of history for those interested: I had been learning to tweak for a week when haxi0 released Lunar (a great tweak!). I looked at it, figured it wouldn’t be too hard to make something similar as a practice tweak, and decided to give it a try! Also, don’t say I copied Lunar – yes, while the 3 lines that appear on the lock screen look similar, the hundreds of lines I wrote myself, in addition to learning to tweak, took many hours, and all of those lines were unique. I also received explicit permission from haxi0 to publish this project – if I hadn’t, I would have kept it private. Regardless, it was a lot of fun (and frustrating) making Mooner, and I hope to make many improvements in the future! I plan to open-source Mooner as soon as the code has been cleaned up to make it prettier, which should help budding tweakers make adjustments (I would have loved that)!

If you want to try Mooner, you can download it for free from Mooner’s personal repository Nowisdev via your favorite package manager. The tweak is compatible with devices jailbroken with Dopamine or Palera1n.
