We have been waiting a long time for one Apple AI smarter and more human. While other companies such as OpenAI with ChatGPT, or Google with Gemini, are already part of those more advanced robots that are capable of performing and responding to complex tasks, Siri is not yet.
However, it seems that with iOS 26.4, this spring, things would change, and we could finally enjoy something much better on our iPhone, Mac, HomePod, etc. But…It will be free, or Apple will charge us to use it with a subscription like other companies?
Will the new Siri be paid?
With all the boom in artificial intelligence, it was a matter of time before the question arose: when Siri is truly intelligent, will Apple end up charging for it? Because Siri is one thing to set alarms and an assistant who understands what you say and really helps you is quite another.
Apple has been working on a much more advanced Siri for some time, something closer to a chatbot with which you can talk, ask for more complex things and use it on a daily basis. Not just for quick questions, but to help you write, summarize information or do tasks without almost touching your phone.
The thing is, all of this doesn't come for free. Maintaining powerful AI systems costs a lot of money, and other companies have already chosen to charge a subscription for the most advanced features. So the doubt is not as strange as it seems.
Apple, for now, has not said that it will charge for Siri. There are no ads or prices on the table. But seeing how the company works, chances are they won't charge you for using Siri as usual, but they will charge you for going a step further.
The easy thing to imagine is this: the usual Siri will still be there, free, integrated into the system and for everyone. And then, for those who want something more powerful, a more advanced version could appear with new and more complete functions, something that Amazon is already beginning to implement with Alexa, just like ChatGPT or Gemini have in their more Pro versions.
It must also be taken into account that Apple can do many things directly on the device itself, without depending so much on the cloud. That gives you room to not turn Siri into something completely paid from day one, but it doesn't mean that, where you need the internet, it will be the same.
So, in short, no one knows yet if Siri will end up being paid or not. But if Apple decides to charge, it will almost certainly be for the most advanced, not the basics. The Siri we use now is not going away, but the really “ready” Siri could have conditions, so let's not claim victory just yet for smarter AI, since it could become paid, leaving us all with a bad taste in our mouths.
And you, what do you think about this? Would you pay if it's really worth it, or do you think you've already spent enough money for the device so that they charge you more? Leave us a comment with your opinion.
