The latest is a very recent Ferrari was located thanks to AirPods left in the vehicle by its wealthy owner. AirPods to save a Ferrari
In Waterbury, Connecticut (United States), law enforcement apprehended a suspect in connection with the theft of a luxury car.
A 2023 Ferrari, most certainly one 812 Superfastvalued at $575,000, was stolen in Greenwich on September 16, according to the police. WPD identified and stopped the stolen car, but the driver fled the scene… The car’s owner had left a pair of AirPods inside the vehicle. The Waterbury Auto Theft Squad was able to locate the headphones and the car at a gas station on South Main Street.
Two suspects, Keon Webster, 19, and Schontten, were arrested after the investigation revealed they both got behind the wheel of the stolen car, according to Waterbury police. Schontten was charged with a second motor vehicle theft, while Webster faces a seventh charge for the same type of offense.
Residents say they are relieved to see the repeat offenders arrested, with police believing a small group is responsible for much of the city’s car thefts.
Ironically, it was simple AirPods that compromised the thief and made it possible to find the vehicle worth more than half a million dollars. Apple’s Find My feature was once again very valuable.
If you haven’t purchased AirTags (currently at €94 for a pack of 4 instead of €129), so you have the option of leaving your AirPods in the car when you get home or go to dinner for example, this could save the day. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a Clio or a Ferrari.
Remember that the simplest, and cheapest, remains Apple’s AirTag tracker.
