Rumors of an affordable Tesla are finally becoming clearer with the announcement of a Model Q planned for 2025. While electric cars are struggling to reach the entry-level market due to manufacturing costs, Tesla could once again hit a big mark. suddenly by releasing a more affordable model.

Aggressive positioning below $30,000

Tesla is preparing its offensive in the affordable electric vehicle segment with its future Model Q, announced during an investor meeting with Deutsche Bank. This new model, whose internal code name is “Redwood”, targets a particularly attractive price below $30,000 (around 27,800 euros), which could even go down to $25,000 on the American market.

The Model Q will be built on a completely new platform, with dimensions reduced by 15% compared to the Model 3, for a length of approximately 3.98 meters. More compact but also 30% lighter than its big sister, it will benefit from an optimized design making it possible to halve its production costs.

Promising technical characteristics

The American manufacturer has chosen a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, available in two capacities: 53 kWh and 75 kWh. Customers will have the choice between single or dual engine versions, with an announced range of up to 500 kilometers.

Production should be carried out in part by the Shanghai Gigafactory, making it possible to obtain even more competitive prices on the Chinese market – up to 140,000 yuan or around 18,250 euros. Tesla is clearly targeting its direct competitors like the BYD Dolphin and the Volkswagen ID.3, which together achieve around 20,000 monthly sales in China.

This new Tesla Model Q is part of the manufacturer’s ambitious growth strategy, which targets 20 to 30% growth in 2025. A project which could well redistribute the cards in the market for affordable electric vehicles, particularly in emerging markets. This Tesla “SE” model of automobile, if successful, could be a hit and undoubtedly make electric cars a little more popular.
