The year is not over for Xavier Niel’s operator. A week after the announcement of the limited edition Freebox Ultra, Free is hitting hard in the world of internet boxes with the launch of its first 5G Box equipped with WiFi 7, a first in France. This new offer shakes up the market for alternatives to optical fiber, with a particularly innovative and competitive proposition which currently has no equivalent.

The ultimate 5G box

Free’s 5G Box, developed in collaboration with Nokia – definitively burying the partnership with Huawei – offers theoretical speeds of up to 1.5 Gbit/s down and 130 Mbit/s up on the 3.5 GHz band. It incorporates the latest WiFi 7 standard, allowing up to 100 devices to be connected simultaneously with optimal stability. On the connectivity side, it has 3 Ethernet ports and a USB port for connecting external equipment. The box is also 5G SA compatible.

Installation is particularly simple: delivered within 2-3 working days, the box is ready to use thanks to its pre-installed SIM card and a connection system by QR Code or with the application which avoids manual entry WiFi codes.

A complete offer at an attractive price

Free hits hard with an aggressive price of €29.99/month for the first year then €39.99/month without commitment, thus becoming the cheapest fixed 5G offer on the market. The subscription includes:

  • Internet access unlimited in 5G/4G

  • OQEE by Free with 230 TV channels, replay and 100 hours of recording

  • The Free FOOT application

  • Compatibility with Free Family benefits (up to 4 5G packages at preferential rates)

The operator also offers coverage for termination fees of up to €50 to facilitate the change of operator. The box has been designed in an eco-responsible way with more than 90% recycled materials for its shell and 100% recyclable packaging.

Free specifies that to be eligible for this offer you must have “very good” 4G/5G coverage (a map is available online) and obviously not already eligible for fiber. Finally, the 5G box is available today on the Free website.
