Strange Scaffold studio, in partnership with Frosty Pop Games, has just announced the mobile release of “El Paso, Elsewhere”, a third-person shooter that will leave no one indifferent. With its retro style borrowed from a certain Max Payne, the one that was acclaimed when it launched on PC and Xbox last fall, also draws its inspiration from other classics of the genre such as Quake and Hotline Miami.
EDIT of 19/09: the game is available!
Discover El Paso, Elsewhere
El Paso invites you to play as James Savage, who makes his way through a supernatural motel, floor by floor, in search of his ex-lover, who has become a murderous vampire who aspires to destroy the world. A pretext to rediscover buried game mechanics such as the “bullet time” inaugurated by the Matrix film, as well as a unique atmosphere.
The trailer for El Paso, Elsewhere is a little gem:
Yes, El Paso, Elsewhere is going from consoles to mobile, allowing you to hunt down werewolves, fallen angels and other cursed creatures in a motel with a changing reality. In total, there are 46 floors to explore (and clean), the player being carried along by a gripping narration and a particularly becoming hip-hop soundtrack. We are fans of the special effects, the destructible environments and, above all, the gameplay!
Our opinion on El Paso
El Paso doesn’t pull any punches, and that’s a good thing. It’s stylish, smart, and gripping in a way few games can, and it feels both ancient and modern. At times, it’s so fast-paced that you’re better off going invincible and blasting your way through, taking advantage of the well-imagined and terrifying set pieces. At other times, juggling ammo, bullet time, stake counts, and the advancing horde is a thrill.
But I stuck it out, and I’m glad I did. The final level of El Paso is beautiful and unexpected, and will make you forget everything for a playthrough (or more).
Date and price
El Paso will launch as a free trial model, with the option to play a portion of the game for free, and then unlock the full game with a one-time in-app purchase. Expect to pay 3GB of free space to install the beast. See you on September 17th. In the meantime, you can pre-order it below.
