Apple announced a new repair program for the iPhone 14 Plus to address a rear camera module issue affecting a limited number of devices. According to the company, a small batch of iPhone 14 Plus manufactured between April 10, 2023 and April 28, 2024 may experience a malfunction where the rear camera preview is not displayed. Obviously, the malfunction is hardware, a first since the iPhone 12 speaker problem in 2021.
How to check if my iPhone 14 Plus is eligible
To allow users to check if their device is affected, Apple offers a serial number checker on its website. If an iPhone 14 Plus is confirmed to be affected by this issue, Apple will perform the repair free of charge, provided the device has no other damage. Affected users can visit an Apple store, Apple Authorized Service Provider, or use a mail-in option for repair.
Affected iPhones
The program covers eligible iPhone 14 Plus models for three years from the original purchase date. Apple is also offering refunds to customers who have already paid for a repair related to this issue.
This program is specifically for iPhone 14 Plus models manufactured within the specified time period and does not apply to iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max models. Normally, they are not affected by this problem.
Luckily, the iPhone 14 Plus did not sell well, so the repair program must only concern a few customers. Apple will also change its strategy next year by instead offering a much more attractive iPhone 17 Air, in particular thanks to an ultra-thin design allowing it to stand out from the rest of the range.
