As expected at the start of the year, Nintendo’s next console is fast approaching. With Nintendo’s latest financial results published yesterday, which were rather disappointing, the manufacturer confirmed that the platform would be unveiled before the end of the current fiscal year. Better, the new Switch will have the capacity to run games from the first model, according to CEO Shuntaro Furukawa.
Good news!
Although no release date has yet been communicated, we already know that backward compatibility with Nintendo Switch games is planned. The “Switch 2” should be presented before the end of March 2025, the Japanese giant ending its year at this time.

With the confirmation of backward compatibility between the two generations of consoles, players will be able to continue to use their cartridges and download their digital versions from their Nintendo account. Good news for players who will have no reason not to fall for the new model. Reselling the Switch 1 to buy the Switch 2 should therefore be something very popular, a bit like switching from one iPhone to another.
Do you think Nintendo will keep the Switch name for the next model? Switch 2, Switch+, Switch Pro, Super Switch, other?
