The Ray-Ban Meta, smart glasses from Mark Zuckerberg’s company, are establishing themselves as one of the real commercial successes of the year 2024 on the tech side. And given the new features they will be equipped with, it’s a safe bet that the trend will continue in 2025!
Meta’s glasses get even smarter
Because the device took a major turning point when Meta integrated its generative artificial intelligence (AI). But it is with the very latest update, v11, that we can truly realize the possibilities offered by the technology.
With Live AI, users will be able to hold conversations in real time with their glasses. For example, it will be possible to ask them for recipes with the ingredients that are right in front of them.
The Ray-Ban Meta will also be able to translate conversations in real time. Four languages will initially be available: English, Spanish, French and Italian. “ When you talk to someone who speaks one of these three languages, you’ll hear what they say in English through the speakers in the glasses or as a transcript on your phone, and vice versa », Explains the company. She specifies, all the same, that the AI can make errors when it translates.
Finally, Ray-Ban owners from Meta will be able to activate Shazam by simple voice command, in order to identify a song they like.
The tech product of the future?
Note that, for now, real-time features are limited to members of Meta’s early access program, while Shazam support is available to all users in the United States and Canada. Europeans will therefore have to be patient, but this already gives us a good overview of what awaits us..
These new features demonstrate Meta’s ambitions. The company intends to combine its efforts in virtual and augmented realities with those in artificial intelligence, in particular by integrating AI assistants into its devices. A strategy that seems to work and, above all, that is being emulated.
A few days ago, Google unveiled Android XR, a brand new operating system dedicated to smart glasses, with Gemini as an integrated assistant. Apple is also working on such a device, although a launch is not immediately planned. But it’s a safe bet that the Cupertino giant will deploy Apple Intelligence in its future mixed reality products.
- Meta introduces new artificial intelligence features to the Ray-Ban Meta.
- This includes live chat, real-time translation, and access to Shazam with just a voice command.
- Features that are currently not available in Europe. However, they offer a nice glimpse of what awaits us.
