There are few days left for the Apple developer event, where we will know more information about all the operating systems of the different devices, among which is the new version of MacOS 26 Tahoewith enough news.
While it is not a year where the expectation is very high, we will see changes equally, so it is likely that, after knowing them, you want to try it, although we will have to wait to September, in its official launch, unless we install the first betas.
Mac characteristics 26
We can make a summary of everything we know so far, making a little clearer what is coming in a week, although Apple could surprise us with functions or tools that we do not know, and that come that day.
- Official name: Macos 26 will be called Tahoe macOSfollowing Apple's tradition of using names from places in California.
- New version scheme: Apple will adopt a numbering system aligned per year. Macos 26 corresponds to the 2025–2026 cycle, just like iOS 26, ipados 26, etc.
- Visual redesign: It will include elements inspired by visionos, such as:
- More rounded icons.
- Translucent effects.
- Floating bars
- More uniform aesthetics with the rest of the Apple ecosystem.
- Automation with Apple Intelligence:
- New version of the APP APPs.
- Integration of AI for more powerful and accessible automation.
- New games app: Dedicated application that unifies Apple Arcade and Game Center and that leaves us out these of the App Store.
- Compatibility with devices:
- MacBook Pro (2019 onwards)
- IMAC (2020 onwards)
- Mac Pro (2019 onwards)
- Mac Mini (M1 onwards)
- Mac Studio (all models)
- MacBook Air (M1 onwards)
- Key dates:
- Beta for developers: June 9, 2025
- Public beta: July 2025
- Final launch: autumn of 2025
In summary, what we will see, mainly, is a new design, which will share key issues with the rest of the operating systems of the different teams, unifying all in the same number. In principle, internal novelties in software or exclusive tools are not expected, although surely we see some key point.
In functions improvements such as Airdrop, Handoff or Universal Controlwhich could be faster or function more fluidly. Another interesting topic is the possible connection with devices such as Apple Vision Pro, which would give clues to where Apple is going in the coming years. As for performance, there are probable that there are adjustments that benefit Mac with M1 and M2 chips, making everything finely. For those who use the MAC in more demanding tasks, such as video or music edition, we may see some timely improvement in apps such as Cut or Logic final, although there is nothing confirmed. In summary, without promising a revolution, Macos 26 paints as an update that polishes details and reinforces the set.
And you, do you think it will really be one more version, or Apple will surprise us with something better? I do not think we see much, and it will only be a transition to unify name and characteristics, being the following, possibly more radical in terms of changes.
