During a casual (and organized) stroll through New York City, the host of the famous Tonight ShowJimmy Fallon sat down with Apple CEO Tim Cook last Friday to talk about the new iPhone 16 and Cook’s affection for the iconic Apple Store on Fifth Avenue.

The scene was set: Jimmy Fallon was coming to buy his new iPhone, wearing the Vision Pro headset, when he met Tim Cook. The latter handed him the device in person.

A marketing event between friends

As they headed to Apple’s Upper East Side store, Cook explained that he makes a point of visiting the Fifth Avenue store for every major product launch. Jimmy Fallon joked about the rockstar reception Cook gets from fans, but the Apple boss modestly attributed it to people’s love for the brand. The two shared stories from their college days, with Cook already intrigued by the creativity that computers could enable, while Fallon explained that he majored in computer science, including Cobol and C++.

Tim Cook and Jimmy Fallon discuss iPhone and Apple Intelligence

They also discussed Tim’s 27 years at Apple, with him admitting he never planned on becoming CEO. On the tech front, Steve Jobs’ successor expressed his enthusiasm for Apple Intelligence, which will begin rolling out next month. He highlighted features like automatic email summarization and creative tools like Genmoji and Image Playground. It’s obviously the new feature of the year for the manufacturer, which is banking heavily on AI to sell new phones. Most of the features aren’t dazzling on paper, but the integration of Apple engineers should make a difference. Our early tests, on the American version, show in any case that the experience is excellent, in particular the photo editing by text indications, as well as the intelligent replies.

The conversation ended on a humorous note, with Fallon showing off his “psychic” abilities by correctly guessing Cook’s preference for mustard on hot dogs and offering him items themed around the “Big Apple,” New York’s nickname.

Finally, here is the video in question, a sort of marketing stunt between friends for the launch of the iPhone 16 range:
