Apple Music Classical, the classical music streaming service that launched in early 2023 and has yet to fully find its footing, received a 2.0 update today that brings some exciting new features to the app. Chief among them is the addition of booklets for thousands of albums.
Apple Music Classical welcomes booklets
Album booklets contain valuable information for music lovers. They include multilingual liner notes, composer biographies, information about the orchestra, conductors and soloists, as well as, where available, sung texts and opera librettos, thus enriching the listeners’ understanding of the music.
When a booklet is available for an album you’ve selected, an open book icon appears in the upper right corner of the screen. Tapping this icon downloads the booklet, which you can zoom in and out to see what’s inside.
Other new features
In addition to album booklets, version 2.0 also adds a new Recently Added section to the Library, making it easy to find your latest favorites.
A little-known application
The Apple Music Classical app lets Apple Music subscribers explore over five million classical music tracks, including high-quality new releases, as well as hundreds of playlists, thousands of exclusive albums, and features like composer biographies and in-depth analyses of major works.
The app’s interface is designed to make exploring classical music easier. Unlike the traditional Apple Music app, Apple Music Classical lets you search by composer, work, conductor, or catalog number. Users can also access rich editorial notes and descriptions to deepen their experience.
Apple has even commissioned and integrated high-resolution digital portraits of famous composers like Ludwig van Beethoven, Frédéric Chopin and Johann Sebastian Bach, created with color palettes and artistic references specific to their era.
