Clearly, Bruno Le Maire has not been idle since his departure from the Ministry of the Economy. While he already serves as a guest professor at the University of Lausanne, the latter has just been appointed as an advisor to ASML, the Dutch manufacturer of machines for producing electronic chips. Explanations.
A conditional activity
In a press release published for the occasion, the company indicates that Bruno Le Maire will serve as an advisor to the group’s board of directors. We will not know more about the nature of this mission.
In any case, the former minister had previously contacted the High Authority for Transparency in Public Life (HATVP) to find out its opinion on “its project to modify the social purpose” of his company 48 Jacob “for the purpose of providing consultancy services” at ASML.
The body estimated this Thursday, December 19 that it “considers that the project envisaged by Mr. Mayor is compatible with the public functions he has exercised, subject to respecting certain precautionary measures”.
Thus, Bruno Le Maire must not approach members of the government or his cabinet in office at the same time as him as long as they occupy public functions, as well as the services over which he had authority, specifies BFM Tech. These measures take effect until the expiration of a period of three years.
As our colleagues from the Independent, the French politician has already worked in the field of semiconductors, when the shortage was raging following the Covid pandemic.
Thus, in 2023, the latter formalized state aid of nearly 3 billion euros for the construction of a new electronic chip factory for the Franco-Italian group STMicroelectronics with the American GlobalFoundries in France.
Finally, note that Bruno Le Maire will be able to speak directly in the language of Molière with the current president and CEO of ASML, who is none other than the Frenchman Christophe Fouquet, who took the helm of the group of 42,000 employees last April.
What to remember:
- Bruno Le Maire has just been appointed advisor to the Dutch group ASML
- It’s a microchip giant
- The former minister will have to respect certain conditions imposed by the High Authority for the transparency of public life
- He joins Frenchman Christophe Fouquet who has run this company since last April
