I have a lot on my heart. I have to face the facts: I don’t like Netflix like I used to. However, I still remember the very first time I discovered the streaming platform. I remember the moment I finally decided to subscribe. In fact, I even remember the first movie I watched after taking the plunge. At that time, I saw a world of possibilities open to me.

Content on Netflix, you could say that I have consumed it in spades. But today, I spend less and less time on the platform. Maybe I have less free time, but I know that’s not the main reason. Sometimes I even wonder why I continue to pay for my subscription. Netflix, what happened to make me so jaded?

Too much, and not enough

Everyone says it: the quality of Netflix’s original programs is no longer what it used to be. Ah, I remember the first seasons ofOrange is the new blackfrom the beginnings of Stranger Thingsextremely excellent Devilman Crybabyof Daredevil upon his arrival in France or even Mindhunter And The Get Downboth wrongly canceled. But as it grew, Netflix wanted to think big. Too big. By increasing the quantities of content, the quality has taken a hit. I can recently quote the movie Werewolvesshockingly out of date.

At the same time, Netflix is losing us more and more. Every week, its catalog is enriched with original creations. So much so that we no longer really know where to turn and it takes hours to decide on a program. The spectators are lost, the pace goes too fast and above all, we border on indigestion with this overdose of films and series. Paradoxically, the streaming platform does not hesitate to cancel series that are appreciated but which never have time to catch on. The frustration continues to grow… Ultimately, what’s the point of launching a new series when there’s a good chance that Netflix will cancel it after one or (luckily) two seasons?

Right now I mainly use Netflix for binge-watching Brooklyn 99 for the umpteenth time (no judgment please) and devour Downton Abbey. Two programs that are absolutely not created by the platform. Although, I admit, Netflix continues to seduce me from time to time with The Bridgerton Chronicles (my guilty pleasure) or Squid Gamewhich was a very pleasant surprise when it was released.

No longer the only platform in my heart

Netflix seems to forget that it is no longer the only streaming platform on the market. In recent years, Disney+ and Prime Video have established themselves as strong competitors of the Red N. On one side or the other, both platforms offer original content that is nothing to be ashamed of. I do not intend to stop my propaganda The Bear on Disney+ while Fleabag on Prime Video is probably one of my favorite series.

While launching Netflix has long been a reflex for me, I am now more likely to open Prime Video. If I’m more in the mood for cinema, I know I can count on Canal+.

A small interface problem?

To top it off, I have a problem with the Netflix interface. Everyone complains about Prime Video (rightly, certainly) and praises that of the leader in video streaming. Although I tend to agree, something irritates me in the interface of the “My list” section. It’s not much but I find it poorly thought out. Why doesn’t Netflix highlight programs on My List that will disappear in the coming days? Instead, I miss out on many films and series that I really wanted to see without really knowing it. Not cool… It’s a small optimization detail that could make a significant difference. It’s especially frustrating when we see Netflix boasting of having an excellent interface, even if this is not entirely false compared to its competition.

Prices that continue to rise…

To top it all off, Netflix likes to increase its prices relatively regularly. According to the latest rumors, users of the platform will (again) have to checkout in the coming months. Of course, we still have to wait for it to be official, or not.

While I have long subscribed to its most expensive plan for my own pleasure and to delight the whole family, today I find myself with the Standard offer with advertising. The end of account sharing had already pushed me to switch to a cheaper plan. But the removal of the Essential formula for around ten euros a few weeks ago is perhaps the last straw in my eyes. Why would I continue to spend almost 14 euros per month when I spend less and less time on the platform? I can take the time for a few commercial breaks. But Netflix continues to make me roll my eyes. Would I be able to free myself from the yoke of the red N? Perhaps, through disappointments and frustrations…
