We have been waiting for this feature for years and Instagram has launched it with a condition that has already generated more than one complaint: only you have 15 minutes from when you publish a comment so I can edit it. After that time, what you wrote stays there forever. Meta has confirmed that it is available on both Android and iOS.
And it is not the only limitation, because there are two. The other is that you can only modify the comment text. If you attached a photo with the message, the image cannot be changed. Just the words. It's not exactly the most generous implementation in the world, although it's something.

Within that 15 minute window, you can at least edit as many times as you wantso there is room to correct without haste before the deadline closes. What some will probably like less is that edited comments are marked with the label «Edited»visible to any user. Transparency, yes, although without access to the history of previous versions.
Compared to other platforms, the feature arrives late and with more restrictions than the competition. Twitter/X has been allowing you to edit tweets for years —although only in your payment plan—, and applications like WhatsApp or Telegram offer editing without that strict time limit. That Instagram has taken so long to implement something like this, and on top of that with so many restrictions, says a lot about its priorities. Or about its way of managing user expectations, which amounts to the same thing.
