Since the arrival of ChatGPT, tech players have been in a race to integrate generative artificial intelligence almost everywhere on the internet. And Amazon Prime Video, the e-commerce giant’s streaming service, has found a brilliant way to use this technology to improve the experience for movie and series fans. In a press release, Amazon presents the “X-Ray Recaps” functionality which uses AI to automatically generate recaps of the series watched by the user.
Recaps generated by artificial intelligence to avoid spoilers
Recaps are necessary to continue a series or episode when the user no longer remembers what happened previously. And the advantage of these AI-generated recaps is that they can summarize a series, season or episode taking into account the exact moment the user left off. Thanks to these personalized summaries, the user avoids the risk of coming across spoilers.
“Whether you’re minutes into a new episode, halfway through a season, or have paused watching a series and need a refresher, X-Ray Recaps provides short verbatim excerpts of major cliffhangers, character-related plot points, and other details that can be viewed at any point during your viewing”explains Amazon.
In beta version in the United States
Unfortunately, this new feature is not available in France. According to Amazon, X-Ray Recaps is being beta tested and will be available to Fire TV device users in the United States. The feature is also limited to Amazon MGM Studios original content. The technology analyzes video segments, subtitles and dialogue to generate recaps. “Safeguards are also applied to ensure the production of concise and spoiler-free summaries,” the company also indicates.
The user has the option to generate recaps of the current episode, season or previous season.
