As you probably know, Apple no longer sells iPhone SE in France or in Europe. As with the iPhone 14, the cheapest smartphone in the range had to be withdrawn because of the Lightning port which is no longer authorized within the European Union. Instead, you need a universal port, in USB-C format. While it could have produced iPhone SE by changing the port, the Cupertino company decided to launch a completely new model, which combines the price of the iPhone SE and the look of the iPhone 14. A mix of the two gone with an ounce of new things.
Modernized design
Despite its young age, the iPhone SE 3 (2022) has retained the design of the iPhone 8, itself very close to the iPhone 6, which seems aberrant alongside recent models, iPhone 16 in the lead. Fortunately, the iPhone SE 4 is about to get a major redesign. It should adopt a design similar to that of the iPhone 14, with a larger 6.1-inch OLED screen, flat edges, as well as Face ID in the famous notch. However, to keep costs down, the SE 2025 will likely stick to a single-camera setup.
Single camera
If this is not the main criterion for customers of this model, future buyers should be delighted to learn that the rear single sensor will go from 12 to 48 megapixels. The front camera should also increase from 7 to 12 MP in the previous model, enough to offer shots of substantially higher quality than those of the SE 2022.
Home 5G modem
The iPhone SE 4 will also introduce Apple’s first 5G modem, codenamed Centauri. This component will not only handle 5G, but also Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS, potentially reducing costs compared to using Qualcomm modems and Broadcom chips. This could help keep the iPhone SE 4 price competitive (and Apple’s margin very high).
USB-C
In line with EU regulations mandating a common charging port, the iPhone SE 4 will switch from Lightning to USB-C, following the example of the iPhone 15 and its descendants. This change will enable uniform charging across Apple’s entire product line, including iPads and MacBooks, all now able to share the same cable. Or almost. A MacBook requires a beefier USB-C cable to charge, but a basic accessory will still be able to give it some power, at a significantly slower speed.
Apple Intelligence
Latest adds the iPhone SE 4 will support Apple Intelligence, thanks to a state-of-the-art chip, namely the A18 and 8 GB of RAM. Enough to enable features such as writing tools, AI photo editing, Genmoji, Image Playground, notification summaries and a revamped Siri, even on the most accessible new iPhone.
Price and release date of the iPhone SE in France
While the exact price isn’t confirmed, rumors suggest the iPhone SE 4 could start at around $499 in the US. By converting this price into euros, taking into account current exchange rates and VAT in France, the estimated price could be €569, or even €599. For comparison, the iPhone 16 is sold for €969, excluding promotion, with similar services (chip, 60 Hz OLED screen, 5G, etc.).
If the iPhone SE 4 is indeed equipped with these features at a relatively low price, it could attract a whole new customer base, currently running Android via low-cost brands.
Keep in mind that these details are based on current rumors and leaks, and official pricing and specifications will only be confirmed once Apple makes its announcement, estimated for March 2025. We can expect a press release, although some sources speak of a mini-keynote.
