Apple gives much importance to the native applications of its ecosystem, and Calendar It is one of the most used and popular, and the company is working on an improvement that could arrive very soon, with iOS 19. This update is scheduled for September of this year and in this article we tell you the novelties.
Although he did not announce it with bombs and saucers, the Cupertino company bought in April 2024 Calendar in iOS 19.
Calendar will use artificial intelligence
Mayday Labs developed a calendar application with artificial intelligence capable of automatically manage your daily agenda. It was not a simple calendar, but a solution all in one that combined task management, programming assistant and an algorithm capable of learning your habits to suggest the best time to perform each activity. The idea was that, as you were using it, the app became smarter and adapted better to you, proposing the best schedules for your events or meetings.
Another of its most outstanding functions was the ability to Coordinate meetings Among several people, analyzing the availability of all participants and automatically proposing an adequate hour for all. I could even Reprogram events If another event arose at the same time, without you doing anything. After the purchase by Apple, the original application was withdrawn from the market, but its technology and its equipment became at the service of Tim Cook's boys.
All this fits with Apple's strategy in recent years. Since September 2023, the company has acquired several companies focused on artificial intelligence, such as Pointable, Darwinai or Betteromicsamong others. Although some of these purchases did generate headlines, others, such as Mayday Labs, they did not viralize. Apple is consolidating its commitment to AI, not only for visual or language processing functions, but also to help us be more efficient in our day to day.
The big question is when we will see the fruits of this purchase. Since more than a year has passed since the acquisition, everything indicates that the first results could reach in iOS 19, Ipados 19 and Macos 16whose first versions will be officially presented at the World Developer Conference next June 9. In fact, Apple has already taken a small step in this direction with the integration of calendar apps and reminders in iOS 18.
Imagine a calendar app that not only warns you of your commitments, but organize them for you, know when you usually train, work or rest, and adapt to your routine so you don't have to juggle with your schedules. That is the promise of a technology such as Mayday Labs applied to the Apple ecosystem. If Apple manages to successfully integrate it under Apple Intelligence's umbrella, we would be facing one of the most practical and unexpected improvements of the operating system.
