Apple TV+ has officially ordered a new series, “Cape Fear” or “Les Nerfs à vive” in French, with a host of stars. First up is Oscar winner Javier Bardem, who will not only star but also executive produce. The series is led by creator Nick Antosca, known for his work on series like “The Act”, “Candy” and “A Friend of the Family”, with also illustrious executive producers Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.
A highly anticipated series
Scheduled for 10 episodes, “Cape Fear” delves into the lives of lawyers Amanda and Steve Bowden, whose peaceful existence is shattered when Max Cady, a menacing figure from their past played by Bardem, is released from prison. This series promises a “Hitchcockian” narrative exploring themes of fear, revenge and the modern fascination with true crime.
Produced under the banners of UCP (Universal Studio Group) andAmblin Televisionthe series is inspired by John D. MacDonald’s novel “The Executioners” (or “Les Executioners” in French), which has already been adapted for cinema, notably by Scorsese in 1991, where it starred a certain Robert De Niro. Bardem will directly take over the role of De Niro, thirty-five years later.
Spielberg, who produced the 1991 film, is teaming up with Scorsese again for this project. Other executive producers include Alex Hedlund of Eat the Catand Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey ofAmblin Television. The series is being designed as part of Antosca’s ongoing contract with UCP, where he has worked since 2017.
Bardem’s involvement at Apple extends beyond this series; He is also expected to appear in the American giant’s next film, “F1”, which is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on June 27, 2025. This project highlights another successful collaboration between Apple TV+ and Amblin Televisionafter their work on “Masters of the Air”. Additionally, Apple’s recent partnership with Scorsese on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which received ten Oscar nominations, showed the firm’s premium ambitions in this area. Another one.
