It is something that we mentioned days ago, but it seems that it will become a reality, and is confirmed more clearly. And it is that Apple is not able to improve its Siriat least without help, so it will turn to Google Gemini to be able to offer its users an improved assistant.
However, this will not come cheap, since, in addition, we are talking about the competition, so Google will accept this, but for a price of approximately one billion a year, which is an outrage, which we hope does not impact users, forcing us to pay for the service.
Apple partners with Google to improve Siri with Gemini
Apple is preparing a new version of Siri that promises to be much smarter and more useful thanks to a partnership with Google. According to Bloomberg, the Cupertino company will integrate the artificial intelligence model Gemini from Google in its assistant, marking an important change in Apple's strategy regarding AI, even though it is not what they were looking for at the beginning.
The agreement, valued at around billion dollars a yearwill allow Siri to use the Gemini model of 1.2 trillion parameters to handle complex tasks such as summarizing text, planning multi-step actions, or answering questions with deeper context. Even so, Apple will continue to use its own internal models for simpler or local functions, even though they are not what the user is really looking for, and therefore they will have to rely on Google.
A key point of the agreement is privacy. Although Siri will rely on Google infrastructurethe data will be processed on servers controlled directly by Apple under its system Private Cloud Computing. This means that Google will not have access to users' personal information, and the only reason an Apple user might prefer this tool to using Gemini directly (since it is also available on iPhones).
Before deciding on Google, Apple also thought about other options such as OpenAI and Anthropic, but finally chose Google for its greater capacity and commercial relationship that already unites them, such as the use of the default Google search engine in Safari.
In the long term, Apple does not want to depend on third parties. It is developing its own large-scale AI model, with more than a trillion parameters, which could be ready in 2026. When that happens, the company hopes to reduce its dependence on Google, however, we are seeing that it is not easy at all, and it could resort, even in a smaller amount, to its competitor for much longer.
The new Siri, which was originally planned to be launched with iOS 18, will be delayed until version iOS 26.4, scheduled for spring 2026, where we will also see this improvement implemented in the new Apple TV, HomePod mini, and other devices, being able to speak to the assistant, as if it were more human, and not as is the case now, when except for time, or the age of a famous person, it can tell us little else clearly and without getting involved.
And you, what do you think of Apple's new AI? Do you mind if they use other companies as long as they do it well, or do you think it should be 100% their own? Leave us a comment with your opinion about it.
