Belkin has just announced a voluntary recall of its BoostCharge Pro Fast Wireless Charger external battery for Apple Watch + Power Bank 10K (model BPD005). The accessories manufacturer, a long-time partner of Apple, is offering a full refund to all affected customers, prioritizing safety in the face of a potentially dangerous defect.
A worrying manufacturing defect
The recall follows the discovery of a manufacturing defect that could cause the battery to overheat, creating a fire risk. Although no incidents have been reported to date, Belkin is taking the lead in asking users to immediately stop using the product and disconnect it from any power source.
Owners of this external battery are invited to follow strict instructions:
- Stop using the product immediately
- Unplug it from any power source
- Store it in a safe, dry place, away from any flammable materials
- Do not throw the device in the trash or recycling bin.
- Contact Belkin for return instructions and refund
This product, marketed since May 2023, was particularly popular with users of Apple Watch Series 7 and later models thanks to its 10,000 mAh capacity, 20W USB-C port and fast charging for the Watch. This is unfortunately the second recall of this type for Belkin, which had already had to recall another wireless charger in 2021 for similar risks. Competitors like Anker need to monitor this very closely.
Affected customers can visit the official Belkin website to initiate the refund process and get more information about this recall. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of rigorous quality controls for charging accessories, particularly crucial in the Apple ecosystem where user safety is a priority.
