Receiving a fine for speeding is never a real pleasure. But it’s all the more frustrating when you get the ticket when you didn’t even get behind the wheel at the time. Yes, machines are not infallible and sometimes there are errors. This is what several motorists in the South-West of France have noticed.
Between Mondoville and Montaigut-sur-Save, a motorist was fined for speeding: 89 km/h instead of 80 km/h. The problem: his car was parked at his home at the time of the incident. What happened?
A dysfunctional radar that gets the date wrong
If the driver did not take the road on Sunday November 5, 2023, contrary to what his ticket indicates, he realizes that he took this path at the specified time the next day. So either the radar is divine or it is dysfunctional. Olivier, the motorist, admits to having perhaps pushed the mushroom a little on Monday, November 6 when returning from work. But this radar error raises several questions, the main one being: can we trust this radar?
Indeed, if the date may be wrong, the radar triggering speed may also be wrong. Thus, the Toulouse driver was determined to call on the public authorities. Almost a year after contesting his ticket, he finally received a letter telling him that his contest had finally been accepted. It’s almost a miracle given that last May, the public prosecutor’s officer explained to him that he was not following up on his request for exemption.
Unfortunately, this driver is not the only one to have been fined incorrectly by this radar. Another motorist reported the problem in August 2023 without anything being done. Olivier’s colleague also received a speeding ticket on the wrong date. Another “driver” was allegedly speeding while his car was in the garage for repairs.
Thus, other motorists could raise a dispute if they were flashed between June 16, 2023, the date of the last radar check, and December 26, 2023. But the administrative procedures are long and tedious.
As for the radar in question, we imagine that it has since been checked and that it now works wonderfully.
