Huawei has been fueling expectations for weeks about the Pure X Max, filtering your design and colors in advanceso today its official presentation was more of a confirmation than a surprise. Still, seeing the numbers on the table helps understand how far the company has come with this form factor experiment. The Pura The Max takes that same idea to a larger scale.
The internal screen goes from 6.3″ to 7.7″and the outer one from 3.5″ to 5.4″. They are considerable leaps. But perhaps the most striking fact is the thickness: 11.2 mm folded and 5.2 mm unfoldedcompared to 15.1 mm and 7.2 mm of the original model. That, in a foldable, is a lot. The price of this slimming is the weight, which rises to 229 g, something that is noticeable in the hand during prolonged use.
The pencil was the great secret, and in the end it arrives
The previous teasers already pointed to this: the Huawei Pura X Max is compatible with the M-Pen 3 Minia reduced version of the Huawei pencil adapted to the compact dimensions of this format. It is sold together with a case specifically designed to store it, which solves the eternal problem of loose pencils that no one knows where to leave. It's an interesting move at a time when Samsung has been moving away from the S Pen in its foldables for some time.
The cameras have also been noticeably improved over the original Pura X. The main one has 50 MP with variable aperture f/1.4-4.0 and OIS, something that is still not abundant in foldables. A 50 MP periscope (f/2.2, OIS) and a 12.5 MP wide angle lens are added. All three use sensors RYYBHuawei's own technology that improves light collection. There are two 8 MP front cameras, one on each screen, designed primarily for video calls.

Kirin 9030 Pro, HarmonyOS and the elephant in the room

The chip that drives all this is the Kirin 9030 Prowhich according to Huawei represents 30% more performance than the Kirin 9020. The battery increases to 5,300 mAh with 66 W wired and 50 W wireless charging. Water and dust resistance improves up to IP58/IP59a detail that the previous model neglected.
And then there's what can't be ignored: the Pura X Max does not have androidbut HarmonyOS 6.1. For users outside of China, that's still a real drawback, with a very limited app ecosystem. Furthermore, for now there is no confirmation of international availability. Prices in China start from about $1,615 for the 12 GB and 256 GB version, reaching more than 2,000 in the top configuration. It is not a mobile phone for everyone, but as an engineering exercise it is difficult not to give it credit.
Does a wide format foldable with a stylus make sense, or is Huawei trying to solve a problem that very few people have?
