For several years now, iPhones have the eSIM optionThat is, we can have our SIM card but virtually. Even in countries like the United States, it is not even an option, since it is an obligation, since the old physical ones no longer exist, but what happens if I change my iPhone?
There is an option with which you can convert your physical card into eSIM in a matter of seconds, leaving the latter useless and being able to throw it away. At that moment your iPhone will have the virtual one, and you will be able to have data and make calls without a card inside, but, when it comes to wanting to transfer this to a new phone, is it possible?
Change iPhone eSIM
These types of questions may not come to mind until they actually happen to us. That is why today we are going to see how easy it would be, so that if at any time you change your iPhone or have a question, you already know how to do it.
The process is very simple, and you should not format your iPhone to sell it, for example, before doing so, otherwise you will lose it, and you will have to request a new one from your company, so the process will no longer be so simple.
Apple makes it clear to us how it works, being as follows:
- First, go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Then, go to “Cellular network” and select the “Add eSIM” option.
- Two options will appear: “Transfer from a nearby iPhone” or “Use QR code.”
- Select the “Transfer from a nearby iPhone” option.
- You’ll see information indicating that your iPhone must:
- Have iOS 16 (if you have an iPhone with an eSIM option you can even update to more than this version)
- Have Bluetooth activated.
- Be unlocked.
- If you meet these requirements, your iPhone will automatically detect the eSIM or virtual SIM of the other iPhone, allowing you to quickly pair it.
You won’t have to make any more changes, and now you can restore the old iPhone. Many times, since we have a backup, and Apple makes it so easy for us with iCloud, we do not realize this, and When formatting it we are left without the eSIMso we must be careful, especially if we have both phones in our possession, since if we want to sell it before buying the new one, or we simply lose it, the process, as we said, will depend on our operator, and will be anything slower and we will need a QR code.
Remember that not all telephone companies allow this, so if you want to try the eSIM, you must belong to one that does, although more and more companies accept it every day. If you go to the settings and the SIM card, you will have the option to convert it. If it doesn’t appear, you know why.
And you, are you more into eSIM or will you continue with the physical card as long as they allow it? Leave us a comment with your experiences and the reason for choosing one or the other, although soon we will end up like the United States, and there will be no option to choose.
