And no Yahoo is not (yet) dead. For good reason: Yahoo Mail is completely renewing itself with the launch of a new version of its mobile application, putting artificial intelligence at the heart of the user experience. This major overhaul, currently only available on iOS in the United States, promises to revolutionize the way we manage our daily emails. A development that echoes Apple’s recent innovations with its native Mail application, although the latter remains more conservative in its approach.

An AI-powered inbox

The big novelty of this update lies in the advanced integration of artificial intelligence. Rob Gelick, general manager of Yahoo Mail, explains: “We know that people struggle to keep track of their inbox volume and organize the most important messages.” To remedy this, the application now offers automatic one-line summaries for each email, accompanied by suggested actions. AI can also help with writing by adapting the tone of the message depending on the context: professional, friendly, formal or concise.

Quick actions allow direct access from the inbox to invoices, verification codes, package tracking, attachments, and even add events to the calendar or respond to invitations with a simple tap. A personalized notification system alerts users only to email categories that really matter to them.

A redesigned and fun experience

Yahoo has completely redesigned the interface to make it more like an instant messaging application, thus responding to modern communication habits. The main inbox intelligently groups messages by sender, content and user-defined topics.

The app also introduces a fun aspect to email management, with a new mode that turns sorting messages into a more engaging experience. Users can quickly archive, delete or mark their emails as read using simple, intuitive gestures. A particularly welcome feature for those who feel overwhelmed by the emails they receive all day long.

Important point for users of other services: it is not necessary to create a Yahoo account to take advantage of these new features. The application allows you to centralize several email accounts (Gmail, Outlook, etc.) in the same place, thus offering a unified solution for managing all your electronic communications. Enough to overshadow the preinstalled Mail app.

This major update of Yahoo Mail, which follows the overhaul of the desktop version earlier in the year, demonstrates the group’s desire to reposition itself in the email services market by focusing on technological innovation. Deployment on other platforms and internationally is planned in the coming months, and it should happen very quickly here because Yahoo clearly wants to gain market share quickly.
