Mercedes is rolling out a new app for the Apple Watch, offering increased control of its vehicles directly from the wrist. This initiative, which responds to growing customer demand, is part of the German manufacturer’s digitalization strategy and strengthens the connected ecosystem of Mercedes owners, particularly those using Apple products.
The key features of the application
The new Mercedes-Benz app for Apple Watch offers a full range of features allowing owners to interact with their vehicle without having to take out their iPhone. Users can in particular:
- Locate their parked vehicle and obtain pedestrian guidance
- Lock and unlock their car remotely
- View essential information such as range, battery or fuel level
- Check that the windows are closed
- Use a compass mode for navigation in areas without mapping
The application also includes an intuitive user interface, designed specifically for the compact screen of the Apple Watch, providing quick access to the most used functions.
Compatibility and availability
This new application is already available on the App Store for all Apple Watch models running watchOS 9 or later. Mercedes-Benz specifies, however, that certain features may vary depending on the trim level and equipment of the vehicle.
Note that Mercedes-Benz is not the only premium manufacturer to offer a dedicated Apple Watch application. BMW, Porsche and Tesla also have similar solutions, demonstrating the growing importance of connected technologies in the premium automotive industry. This trend echoes the increasingly in-depth integration of CarPlay in vehicles, notably with the upcoming arrival of the new generation which will allow more vehicle functions to be controlled via the Apple interface. What if Mercedes was preparing the arrival of CarPlay 2.0 like Audi?
