The palera1n team, known for its semi-tethered jailbreak tool based on the checkm8 hardware flaw for iPhone X and older, has released a very interesting announcement for Apple TV owners.

Palera1n is coming to Apple TV

First of all, since it is based on the checkm8 exploit, palera1n for tvOS will only support certain Apple TV models, including the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K (1st generation). However, tvOS 15 through tvOS 17 will be supported, which makes up for the lack of the most recent boxes.

Another tantalizing detail is that palera1n for Apple TV will use a custom bootstrap with root on the real filesystem, unlike the iPhone and iPad version.

A jailbreak for what on Apple TV?

As you probably know, jailbreaking Apple TV has been possible for a long time (at least since 2010), but it is not as widespread as jailbreaking the iPhone and iPad. Among the popular applications, we find above all NitoTVbut it won’t work with palera1n. On the other hand, the new jailbreak will support tweak injection and include a tvOS file browser called Spartan.

Please note that this will be a semi-tethered jailbreak, which means that you will need a Mac or PC to reboot the Apple TV in jailbroken mode. Without this, the box will be usable, but without access to the features provided by the jailbreak.

We will keep you updated on the situation as soon as the team releases the first beta.
