Spotify has unveiled a new feature called “Offline Save”, designed to give customers an alternative way to listen to music offline without having to manually download playlists. The feature, rolling out globally this week, addresses scenarios where users don’t have an Internet connection and haven’t planned for it.

Spotify adds a very practical option

Concretely, the “Offline Backup” function, called “Offline Backup” in English, automatically generates a personalized playlist based on the titles recently listened to in streaming or in queue, using the cached content already present on the ‘device. According to Spotify, this method allows users to enjoy their favorite music without additional data or storage usage.

Customers can then filter and organize the new playlist by artist, mood and genre, and it will be updated over time based on listening preferences, ensuring fresh music is always available.

After being successfully tested by users last year, Smart Offline Backup is now available to paid subscribers on Android and iOS, and is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

The playlist will automatically appear in the home feed when the device is offline, but the Swedish giant recommends adding the Offline Save playlist to the library for easy access.

How to use offline backup

There Spotify offline backup automatically appears in the Home feed when you are not connected to the Internet.

  1. Make sure you’ve listened to more than five songs recently and have offline listening turned on. To do this, click Settings, then Data Backup and Offline or Storage. Look for the Listen Offline check box.
  2. You can add offline backup to your library to easily access it anytime.
  3. Can’t find Offline Backup? Make sure your Spotify app is updated to the latest version.

A good idea that Apple Music should take on board.
