With the new beta version released by Apple in the last few hours, corresponding to the first iOS 18.2 testing versionhas introduced important changes. If we previously told you about the possibilities of changing the default apps on our iPhone and deleting others, now we show you what the redesigned Mail app looks like.
Along with the betas of iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2, the renewed Mail app now includes a function that organize by categories which promises to improve email organization and inbox management.
Categories in the native Mail app
The new categories functionality in Mail automatically organizes incoming emails into different sections, allowing users to quickly find the most important emails without having to navigate through hundreds of messages. This update continues Apple’s trend of offering more intelligent tools adapted to the needs of users.
Mail categorization divides emails into several sections. The most important messages are grouped into a category called “Top”, while other less priority emails are divided into sections such as “Transactions”, “Updates” and “Promotions”.
The “Transactions” category groups receipts, purchase orders and shipping confirmations, facilitating access to information related to orders and deliveries. This way, users can quickly check details about their purchases without wasting time searching through the rest of their emails.
On the other hand, the “Updates” section includes newsletters, medical appointment reminders and other emails related to important subscriptions and alerts. Apple has designed this section to make it easier to follow notifications that, although useful, do not usually require immediate attention.
Finally, the “Promotions” category bundles special offers and promotional emails, helping prevent these messages from cluttering your primary inbox. This way, users can focus on the most urgent and relevant emails, leaving advertising emails in the background.
Apple Intelligence improves Mail
The new Mail app in iOS 18.2 introduces automatic categorization based on Apple Intelligence technology, which prioritizes the most important emails based on user preferences. These emails appear in the “Main” inbox, although if a message from the “Transactions”, “Updates” or “Promotions” categories contains urgent information, it will also appear in the main inbox. Users can toggle between this categorized view and the traditional chronological list with a button in the app.
The new Mail app also available in iOS 18.2 beta 1.

Categorization is currently in beta, so some emails may be incorrectly classified or duplicated across multiple sections. Apple has promised to improve this system in future updates, although there is currently no option for users to manually correct categorization errors.
Additionally, the Mail app includes an “About Categories” section, where users can see how their emails have been organized in the last week. Although this new feature may not be to everyone’s taste, Apple offers the ability to disable categorization, allowing each user customize your email management according to your preferences.
