According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple’s cheapest iPad should receive an update with Apple Intelligence functions at the end of 2025. This is the iPad 11, a tablet initially announced to be released at the same time as the iPad mini 7, but ultimately postponed by a year.
An iPad 11 three years later
In his last Sunday letter “Power On“, Gurman says the iPhone SE 4 is expected to feature Apple Intelligence in March 2025, with the entry-level iPad following later in the year. He also suggested that by By 2026, all Apple devices with a screen will support Apple Intelligence.
This timeline highlights the long delay since the last iPad 10 update, which was in October 2022. This delay could be due to the difficulty of integrating artificial intelligence capabilities into a device sold at a knockdown price.
The current 10th generation iPad is equipped with the A14 chip, first introduced in the iPhone 12 series, which is starting to stick out its tongue. The next logical step would be an A16 chip (used in the iPhone 15), but to fully exploit Apple’s intelligence, a minimum A17 Pro chip is required. The iPad mini 7 also suffered from this processor.
Recently, Apple introduced the latest iPad mini 7 featuring Apple Intelligence via a press release, while also reducing the price of the current iPad 10 and removing the inclusion of a charger with the device in Europe. These changes suggest that an iPad 11 is not imminent.
We still do not know if Apple will organize an event dedicated to the Mac M4 in the coming days, but it is possible that the firm will be satisfied with a press release, just as it will do in March for the iPhone SE. But, for once, everything is possible with Apple.
