But where has the new Mail app gone? As several readers have noticed, it is not yet available on Mac and iPad, even after installing the iPadOS 18.3 and macOS 15.3 beta. However, iOS 18.2 has been entitled to it for weeks.
Where is the new Mail interface?
Introduced with iOS 18.2, the Mail app, first shown at WWDC 2024, features an updated interface with smart categorization, sorting emails into categories such as Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. It also improves visibility for email senders. However, this update is currently exclusive to iPhone users. While marketing materials for October’s M4 Macs showed off this new Mail app on macOS, suggesting an eventual rollout to those devices, the feature remains absent from current beta versions for iPad and Mac.
This corroborates the rumor according to which the new Mail interface could only appear upon the release of iPadOS 18.4 and macOS 15.4, scheduled for April 2025. This is also the launch date of Apple Intelligence in France.
Nothing surprising in the end, the Cupertino company having gotten into this kind of habit in recent years. Lately, the company led by Tim Cook has phased the Genmoji functionality which was initially only available on iPhone and iPad with iOS 18.2, then on Mac with macOS 15.3 beta 1.
Beyond the technical challenge, we can imagine that criticism of the new categorization system of the Mail application played a role in this discrepancy.
iOS 18.3, iPadOS 18.3, and macOS 15.3 are scheduled for public release between January and February. In the meantime, if you have an iPhone, check out our article to unblock the new Mail app in Europe.
