Sony officially announced the PS5 Pro last month, an improved version of the PlayStation 5, for release scheduled for November 7, 2024. After two weeks of exclusive pre-orders on the Sony site, some resellers are offering the latest generation console, including Amazon and Fnac. The opportunity to reserve the beast for €800.
A machine for hardcore gamers!
The PS5 Pro delivers significantly higher performance thanks to a 67% more powerful GPU and 28% faster memory, promising a smooth 4K experience with reduced loading times. One of the main new features is the improvement of ray tracing, offering more realistic lighting effects, as well as the introduction of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), an artificial intelligence technology that improves image clarity by increasing the resolution using AI. Enough to play in 4K at 120 fps in most cases.
Several games, like Gran Turismo 7, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart And Horizon Forbidden Westwill benefit from these improvements, while patches for third-party titles like Alan Wake 2 And Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be available. A “PS5 Pro Enhanced” label will identify games optimized for the console.
The PS5 Pro also includes an optimization tool to improve the performance of backward compatible PS4 games and PS5 titles not optimized for the Pro. It also supports Wi-Fi 7, variable refresh rate and 8K resolutions.
Available in two versions, the PS5 Pro will cost €799.99 for the digital version and €919.99 with a removable disk drive (sold separately for €120). To compensate for its high price, Sony, which kept the size of the console close to the original PS5, increased the storage to 2 TB. Not sure that this is enough to convince some players. But it is indeed a new generation console with greatly improved capabilities.
