A simple look at the status of our iPhone’s battery is more than enough to know the endless applications that we use on a daily basis. Depending on the type of profile you have, it is possible that the Mail app, the Instagram app and the WhatsApp or Telegram app are in the top positions among those that they consume more battery throughout the week.

Although each of them is designed to cover a specific need, if we observe their operation we quickly find the same common denominator: the number of notifications that we receive. Rare is the time when our screen does not turn on every few minutes for some message, a like in our last story or an email from one of the infinite subscriptions that we have active.

And all of the above can be a real problem at different times of the day. Such as, for example, when we sit on the couch to enjoy some family time while watching a series or when we want to disconnect from everyday life by reading a book. Luckily, our iPhone has solutions for everything and, if we know how to manage it, we will also be able to disconnect from notifications when we need it most.

Don’t let the iPhone control you, even if it costs you

How many times has it happened to you that you have picked up your cell phone and, after unlocking it, you didn’t know what you were going to look at? Don’t worry, it happens to many of us and it is, in a way, normal. The reason is that as our iPhone becomes more and more complete, there are many reasons we have to pick it up: check our next workout according to our coach’s schedule, what the weather will be like tomorrow or what time it will be. cheaper electricity to put the washing machine, among many other examples.

The problem comes when picking up our iPhone to watch something, even if we don’t know what, is becoming more and more frequent and prevents us from calmly continuing to read a book, a movie with our partner, or simply going out for a walk around our house. neighborhood without us being able to spend a long time without consulting your screen.

After much reflection on how to avoid this habit and reduce the hours of use of our iPhone, I have found in the automations that they offer us modes of concentration the answer I needed. And since then, I have managed to significantly reduce the distractions of my iPhone, with their corresponding impact on my mental health.

Automate your concentration modes

The concentration modes of our iPhone They are one of those characteristics that we all know, but until we go to configure them we are not aware of all the potential they have.

Although our device allows us to create a new mode of concentration, it can also help us the classic “Do Not Disturb”if we don’t want to spend a large amount of time configuring it. In my case, I have chosen to drastically reduce all notifications and, therefore, I have not stopped to create exceptions, but it can also be done if you have an application from which you are interested in receiving notifications, even when you want to disconnect from the day to day.

As we can see in the screenshot attached at the top, we can establish different rules to prohibit our notifications from disturbing us: we can define a time, a location or an application. This last option is very interesting if we want, for example, when we have the Books application on our iPhone open, We don’t want any WhatsApp to bother us. However, the easiest thing is to initially establish a schedule. And progressively let’s add more filters. Depending on your habits, the schedule may be different, but a good typical schedule could be from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., for example.

Consider the possibility that, while this mode is active, a small group of people can call you in case of emergency. They may be your favorite contacts and they will be the only numbers that can make your phone ring while you are enjoying some reading time.
