Like a nice Christmas present, Netflix slips season 2 of Squid Game at the foot of its subscribers’ tree. We had to be patient to discover (finally) the rest of the adventures of player no. 456. Originally, no one was really banking on Squid Gamenot even Netflix which had not at all anticipated the phenomenon that the k-drama has become in a few weeks when it was released in September 2021.
With over 265 million views, Squid Game is now the most viewed series in Netflix history. A breathtaking performance! It was therefore not surprising that Netflix rushed to order a second season from its creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk. Even if the latter is more and more tired of his own series. But that’s another subject. To keep us waiting, Netflix even unveiled a spin-off reality TV show with Squid Game: the challenge. It seems that the platform has not fully understood the message of its series…
Still, after more than three years of waiting, season 2 of Squid Game arrives on Netflix this Thursday, December 26, 2024. We can say that it’s about time! Season 1 left us with a multitude of questions and we hope that this new burst of episodes will have the answers. We have already been able to discover the first episode of season 2 of Squid Game. Here’s what we thought about it.

1, 2, 3… Squid Game!
If season 1 of Squid Game left us with a number of questions, this new season intends to answer them without wasting a single second. The first season ended with Gi-hun abandoning plans to join his daughter in the United States. He has one idea in mind: find the organizers of the Squid Game and take revenge after meeting the game’s Recruiter. To capture our attention instantly, this first episode picks up a few moments later.
In the first three minutes, we are treated to a bloody scene (yuck) but above all to the answer to one of our questions: what about the undercover police officer? Remember, this detective was looking for his missing brother. In reality, the latter had won the Squid Game in 2015 and had become the Agent, the one who manages everything on this strange and deadly island. The policeman ended up with a bullet in the shoulder (not cool) and fell off a cliff several meters high (still not cool).
If there is one thing that cinema and series have taught us, it is that as long as we have not seen the body, the character is not dead. Squid Game had also demonstrated this to us in season 1 with the so-called death of player 001. Sorry for the micro-spoiler, but everyone suspected that the police officer had survived. Otherwise, his arc would have no use in the first season. Plus, we saw it in the trailer.
Season 2 of Squid Game So it gets off to a flying start. We advise you to fasten your seat belt. After a (very) brief inventory, here we are two years later. Since participation in the games of number 456, three years have passed. And he is still counting on finding the Recruiter to get his hands on the organizers of the Squid Game and stop the carnage.
Particularly rich, Gi-hun has the means to do everything possible to find his enemies and he does not skimp. Despite years of searching Seoul’s subway platforms in vain, hope returns. At the same time, the young police officer is determined to find the island where the events took place. But he is less lucky than Gi-hun…
With this fast-paced first episode, it doesn’t take us long to dive back into the series, and with pleasure! During the respective quests of Gi-hun and Jun-ho, we also come across two characters who could well be two future players. Interesting…
If we were afraid of being bored with this season 2 of Squid Gamethe first episode proves the opposite to us. For our reunion with the k-drama, we follow the revelations. No, the Recruiter doesn’t confine himself to the metro platforms and he’s not as clean about himself as he would like us to believe. We won’t say more so that you can fully appreciate this new season.
A new game already appears in this first episode, without the competition having started… Another game is presented, but we cannot really say that this one respects the “editorial line” of the Squid Game since it does not is not a game for children. More and more interesting…
This first episode of season 2 of Squid Game is just a taste of what awaits us in this season which will ultimately include seven episodes in total, and not nine like the first season. In a single episode, Squid Game captivates us again. As this one ends, we can’t wait to find out what happens next. That’s quite encouraging!
