WhatsApp is improving its holiday calling with a series of exciting new features. The Meta-owned messaging platform, which sees more than 2 billion calls daily, is rolling out these enhancements across mobile and desktop to make communications easier during this festive period.
New features for more user-friendly calls
The first major new feature concerns group calls, with the possibility of precisely selecting the participants you wish to call, without disturbing the entire group. “A particularly useful function for organizing surprises or discreetly discussing gifts,” according to Meta.
To bring a fun touch to video conversations, WhatsApp is introducing ten new visual effects. Users will now be able to have fun with filters like puppy ears, an underwater environment, or even a karaoke microphone.
Optimized technical quality
Particular attention is paid to the computer user experience. The desktop interface has been redesigned with a new “Calls” tab allowing quick access to all essential functionalities: call launch, call link creation, or direct dialing.
The quality of video calls also benefits from a significant improvement. Whether for individual conversations or group calls, users will benefit from better resolution and a sharper image, both on mobile and on computer.
For Apple users, it is worth noting that these new features will require iOS 15.1 or later, as WhatsApp recently announced that it will stop supporting older iPhones, such as the iPhone 5s.
